Japanese Billionaire Sets New Record For Retweets

Move over nugget boy, there’s a new retweet king in town.

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has set the new record for having the most retweeted tweet, surpassing Carter Wilkerson’s 2017 tweet that asked Wendy’s for free chicken nuggets for life.

In his tweet posted Saturday (1/5), Maezawa said he was going to give 1 million yen away to 100 random people, or the equivalent of roughly $9,000 apiece.

For a chance at winning the cash, all people had to do was follow Maezawa and retweet his tweet.

While Wilkerson’s tweet has garnered roughly 3.6 million retweets, Maezawa’s tweet has already been retweeted over 5.6 million times in just a matter of days.

Maezawa is a 43-year-old Japanese online fashion tycoon who was the first person to buy a ticket aboard SpaceX’s new Moon flyby mission, which is planned for 2023.
