LANDMARK HOTEL IN TEXAS DEMOLISHED AFTER 42 YEARS

Written by on June 9, 2026

A familiar piece of Arlington, Texas history came down in dramatic fashion on June 8 as the former Sheraton Arlington was imploded in less than a minute. The 19-story hotel, a longtime landmark in the city’s Entertainment District, was demolished before a crowd of spectators who gathered to watch the building’s final moments.

Originally built in 1984, the 311-room Sheraton served visitors attending events at the nearby Arlington Expo Center, a venue now known as Esports Stadium Arlington. For decades, the hotel welcomed travelers, convention attendees, and sports fans visiting the area.

Its demolition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Arlington’s rapidly growing entertainment and tourism sector. The site will be redeveloped into Americana by Loews, a new 507-room luxury resort. The project will become Loews’ third hotel in Arlington’s Entertainment District, joining other hospitality offerings near major attractions.

City leaders hope the new development will help attract even more visitors and further strengthen Arlington’s reputation as a premier destination for entertainment, sports, and events.
