IOWA MAN COULD BECOME WORLD’S OLDEST TRUCK DRIVER
Written by Jesse Skelley on July 9, 2026
At 93 years old, Iowa truck driver Orrin Asmus is proving that age is just a number. Asmus, who will celebrate his 94th birthday in August, may soon earn a place in the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest active truck driver.
He has been behind the wheel since he was just 19 years old and has spent the past 11 years driving for McLaughlin Freight. After learning that the current Guinness record belongs to a 92-year-old driver, company president Dan McLaughlin submitted Asmus for consideration.
Over a career spanning more than seven decades, Asmus has logged an incredible 5 million miles on America’s highways. He’s hauled freight through every U.S. state except Alaska and Hawaii, building a remarkable legacy of dedication and hard work.
Whether or not Guinness makes it official, Asmus is already an inspiration, showing that passion, experience, and commitment can keep you rolling well into your 90s.
