AMAZON DRONE DROPS CUSTOMER’S PACKAGE INTO HER POOL

The future may be filled with robots, drones and autonomous vehicles handling everyday tasks, but Amazon’s flying delivery fleet still has a few bugs to work out.

A recent drone delivery in Richmond, Texas, provided a perfect example. Lindsey Austen decided to try Amazon’s Prime Air service and stepped outside when she heard the drone approaching her backyard. Instead of watching it make a flawless delivery, she captured the moment the drone released her package—directly into the hot tub beside her swimming pool.

The package reportedly floated on the water, giving Austen a chance to quickly retrieve it. Still, the experience left her less than impressed, saying she didn’t think she would want another drone delivery.

Amazon’s Prime Air currently serves customers around 11 major metropolitan areas and is aiming to expand to 500 cities and towns by the end of 2026. Until then, it appears these high-tech deliveries may occasionally need a lifeguard.
