HERO TRUCKER STOPS WRONG-WAY DRIVER ON I-70

A frightening scene unfolded on an Illinois interstate Saturday afternoon when a disoriented driver traveled about three miles in the wrong direction on I-70. Illinois State Police reported that the vehicle was heading eastbound in the wrong lanes, creating a serious danger for other motorists.

Cammi and Greg Pierce spotted the van near State Route 4 and immediately tried to alert the driver by honking their horn and waving. Greg said the driver appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel, leading them to believe the person may have been experiencing a medical emergency.

The situation took a dramatic turn when a truck driver stopped his semi, jumped out, and ran toward the moving van. Cellphone video captured the driver opening the van’s door and helping bring the vehicle to a stop.

The Pierces then rushed over to assist, helping safely park the van and prevent what could have been a much more serious accident.
