PETITION TO RENAME NASHVILLE AIRPORT AFTER DOLLY PARTON GETS THOUSANDS OF SIGNATURES

A growing campaign is calling for Nashville International Airport to be renamed in honor of country music legend Dolly Parton following her death at age 80.

A Change.org petition, originally launched by Tennessee residents Lydia Popovich and Dan Dion in January 2025, has gained more than 100,000 additional signatures since news of Parton’s death. The organizers say renaming the airport would recognize Parton’s enormous contributions to Tennessee, country music and communities around the world.

The idea has also received support from Nashville resident and singer Sheryl Crow, who said she would welcome the airport being named after Parton. Tennessee State Rep. Todd Warner has also pledged to introduce legislation supporting the change.

Nashville Metro Councilman Russ Bradford says he has contacted Airport Authority board members about the proposal. However, any renaming would ultimately require approval from the airport board and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The airport currently uses the code BNA, which stands for Berry Field Nashville Airport.
