TEACHER GOES VIRAL TRANSLATING CHINESE LANGUAGE TATTOOS

Written by on August 15, 2025

Westerners have long been fascinated by Chinese character tattoos — but not all of them say what people think. Jessie, a language teacher and creator of the “Chinese with Jessie” YouTube channel, recently went viral for translating some of the strangest and most mistranslated ink she’s seen. Her Aug. 11, 2025 TikTok, with 3.4 million views, revealed tattoos that meant everything from “low quality coal” to “refrigerator” to “more failure.”

One repeat offender? “Coffin man.”

Commenters debated whether the tattoos were intentional, with some verifying Jessie’s translations using Google Lens. The conversation spread to Reddit, where an iconic screenshot resurfaced: a man who believed his tattoo said “Lover of Asian beauty” — but it actually read “Foreign Pervert.”

In one of Jessie’s favorite finds, a giant calf tattoo read “cancer, family, mom, dad, older brother, younger brother, younger sister.” Her only question: “No older sister?”
