A TEXAS COP’S JOKE TAKEN WAY TOO SERIOUSLY

Written by on September 30, 2025

In Lubbock, Texas, a routine patrol turned into an unusual chase that could’ve been mistaken for a comedy sketch. Three mounted police officers spotted a man walking in the street instead of on the sidewalk and decided to talk with him. Suspecting he might have drugs, they asked to search his pockets, but he refused. That’s when Officer William Trotter cracked a joke that completely changed the situation. He told the man his horse was a “drug-sniffing horse.”

Instead of laughing, 42-year-old Joseph Ramirez bolted. At first, the officers thought he was joking too—but he didn’t stop. Ramirez sprinted down an alley, but he didn’t stand a chance against officers on horseback. They caught him almost immediately.

Ramirez is now facing charges of evading arrest and tampering with evidence. Whether the “evidence” involved drugs hasn’t been confirmed, but this incident shows why bad jokes can backfire fast.
