Netflix’s hit anthology series Monster, created by Ryan Murphy, is returned for its chilling third installment — Monster: The Ed Gein Story. Charlie Hunnam stars as Ed Gein, the 1950s Wisconsin murderer and grave robber whose gruesome crimes inspired horror classics like Psycho and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Laurie Metcalf plays his overbearing mother, while Tom Hollander and Olivia Williams appear as Alfred Hitchcock and his wife, Alma Reville.
Murphy told Netflix’s Tudum that choosing Gein as the subject “took a long time,” calling it one of his most personal projects yet. The series explores how isolation, obsession, and mental illness transformed a quiet farmhand into the “Plainfield Ghoul.
