MAN DROPS 1,900 LBS PUMPKIN ON HIS 1991 GEO METRO

What do you do when your trusty old car finally gives out—and you just happen to have a 1,900-pound pumpkin lying around? If you’re Utah’s Alan Gebert, you drop one on the other.

Gebert, who’s been driving his 1991 Geo Metro for nearly 35 years, made headlines earlier this year when his wife’s video about his loyalty to the tiny coupe went viral. So when the Metro finally stopped running, he followed through on a long-running joke: he used a crane to drop his prize-winning pumpkin onto the car at Hee Haw Farms in Pleasant Grove.

The 1,917-pound pumpkin, fresh off a first-place win at the Utah Giant Pumpkin Festival, completely flattened the Geo. And he wasn’t the only one having fun—Utah State University’s annual Pumpkin Toss also featured pumpkins smashing cars, pianos, and trampolines. Fall in Utah clearly means one thing: go big or gourd home.
