PASSENGER HAS MEAT CLEAVER CONFISCATED ON FLIGHT TO UTAH

A Delta flight out of Portland International Airport faced an unexpected delay Thursday evening after TSA discovered a meat cleaver on board. Officials say the blade made it through a security checkpoint inside a passenger’s carry-on bag before the item was flagged as “hazardous” by staff once the plane was already preparing for departure to Salt Lake City.

Out of an abundance of caution, all passengers were asked to exit the aircraft and pass through security screening a second time. While the incident certainly caused frustration for travelers, authorities confirmed that no arrests were made.

The Transportation Security Administration responded by noting that the situation is being thoroughly reviewed. A spokesperson emphasized that the agency takes the matter seriously and may implement corrective measures, including additional workforce training, once the investigation wraps. The Port of Portland echoed that safety remains the top priority as officials work to prevent incidents like this in the future.
