CHECK OUT THRILLER, “WEAPONS” ON HBO MAX

Zach Cregger, known for the breakout horror hit Barbarian, is back with Weapons—a wild, ambitious thriller that proves he’s not interested in making “everyday” movies. The film starts with a chilling mystery: 17 children wake up in the middle of the night, run into the darkness, and vanish. From there, Cregger unravels a twisted, character-driven story that blends horror, dark humor, and social commentary without ever spelling out its themes.
Julia Garner shines as Justine Gandy, a teacher unfairly blamed by her community as paranoia and fear take over. The narrative then shifts among multiple characters—grieving parents, overwhelmed cops, troubled locals—each chapter reframing the story and raising the tension. Strong performances, inventive cinematography, and razor-sharp editing keep Weapons visually striking and constantly surprising.
Funny, frightening, and unsettling in all the right ways, Weapons proves Cregger is one of horror’s most daring modern storytellers.
