FIREFIGHTERS RESCUE A DEER STUCK ON FROZEN LAKE

Firefighters in Connecticut pulled off a dramatic and heartwarming rescue after a deer became stranded on the ice of a frozen lake. The Quaker Farms Fire Company, working with Oxford EMS, responded after the exhausted animal was spotted roughly 600 feet out on the icy surface of Lake Zoar. Unable to stand or move on its own, the deer appeared to be at serious risk as the thin ice threatened to give way beneath it.
To reach the animal safely, rescue crews suited up in cold water rescue gear and carefully maneuvered an inflatable boat across the ice. The approach allowed firefighters to distribute their weight and avoid breaking through into the frigid water below. After a tense operation, the deer was successfully brought back to shore.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection then took custody of the animal to assess its condition. Thanks to quick thinking and teamwork, the rescue ended on a hopeful note.
