AN “ANALOG BAG” IS THE NEWEST NEW YEARS RESOLUTION TREND
Written by Jesse Skelley on January 5, 2026
What if your New Year’s resolution didn’t involve an app, a tracker, or more screen time? Enter the “analog bag” trend, a social media movement encouraging people to swap their phones for offline activities they can carry anywhere. Credited to TikTok creator Sierra Campbell, the idea is simple: fill a tote with non-digital items like crossword puzzles, knitting, watercolor sets, magazines, or a Polaroid camera, and reach for those instead of your phone.
Campbell says the habit has dramatically reduced her screen time while adding more creativity and real connection to her days. Brain experts agree the idea works. Research shows habits are easier to change when they’re replaced, not eliminated. Having an alternative within arm’s reach makes it more likely you’ll use it during moments of boredom or stress.
Whether it’s journaling at a coffee shop or painting in the park, the analog bag offers a quieter, more intentional way to stay present — one small habit at a time.
