“DELIVERY ROBOT” FACES OFF AGAINST TRAIN; LOSES

A routine delivery route turned into a dramatic tech fail in Miami when an autonomous delivery robot was struck and destroyed by an oncoming train. The incident happened Thursday, Jan. 15, and was captured on video by local resident Guillermo Dapelo, who spotted the Coco Robotics device sitting motionless on railroad tracks as a train approached at full speed.
Dapelo, who was walking his dogs around 8 p.m., said the robot appeared stuck for nearly 15 minutes. In the video, he can be heard realizing what’s about to happen just moments before the train plows through, crushing the robot on impact. According to Dapelo, a nearby Uber Eats driver contacted Coco Robotics to report the situation, but the train arrived shortly after.
Coco Robotics later confirmed the robot was not making a delivery and experienced a rare hardware failure. While no one was injured, the incident highlights growing concerns about how delivery robots handle complex infrastructure like rail crossings. As automated delivery expands, questions about safety systems and oversight continue to grow.
