SWIMMER’S PROSTHETIC LEG WASHES UP ON BEACH AFTER 10 MONTHS

A beach day gone wrong turned into a nearly year-long mystery for one English swimmer — with a surprisingly happy ending.
Brenda Ogden, 69, was enjoying a swim at Bridlington beach last April when a sudden wave knocked her over and swept her custom-made titanium prosthetic leg out to sea. The $2,700 limb disappeared in seconds. “One minute we were standing up smiling, the next minute it was disappearing off,” Ogden told the BBC. Despite efforts from her swimming group to recover it, the tide had other plans.
For 10 months, the leg’s whereabouts remained unknown — until fossil hunter Elizabeth Forbes made a bizarre discovery. While exploring rocks on a beach in Atwick, about 14.5 miles away, she spotted the prosthetic leg and shared photos online.
Social media quickly worked its magic, connecting the find back to Ogden. The leg has since been recovered and returned — sock still intact. As Ogden joked, “It’s come a long way.”
