COLORADO POLICE CHASE A “KANGAROO” THROUGH NEIGHBORHOOD
Written by Jesse Skelley on February 13, 2026
Residents in a Highlands Ranch neighborhood got quite a surprise when reports of a “kangaroo” on the loose brought Colorado sheriff’s deputies rushing to the scene. The unexpected call, which the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office joked was “not on anyone’s bingo card,” turned out to be far less wild than first imagined — and far cuter.
When deputies arrived, they discovered the runaway wasn’t a kangaroo at all, but Charlie the Wallaby, a local celebrity with his own Instagram following. By the time law enforcement reached the neighborhood, Charlie was already safely being escorted home by his owners.
The sheriff’s office later shared the lighthearted encounter on social media, even posting body camera footage from inside Charlie’s home. Deputies were invited in to meet the famous marsupial, clearly enjoying the unusual assignment. “I’m not going to lie, this is going to be the highlight of my year,” one deputy said.
For Highlands Ranch residents, it was just another hopping mad day in the neighborhood.
