A viral video is putting speed reading skills to the test — and the internet is accepting the challenge.

Originally posted by brain and eye training project Buffed in August 2025, the clip uses a technique called Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP). Instead of reading lines of text, single words flash in the same spot on the screen. The video begins at a comfortable 300 words per minute and ramps up to a blistering 900 words per minute over its 2.5-minute runtime.

The idea? Because your eyes stay fixed in one place, your brain can process information faster.

Now the video is trending on X and Reddit, with users daring each other to keep up. One user even claimed he understood everything on the first watch — and suggested trying it at double speed.

But science urges caution. While most adults read 200–400 words per minute, and trained speed readers can reach 500–600, research shows deep comprehension drops off dramatically at extreme speeds.
