BEAR WANDERS INTO LIVE NEWS SEGMENT IN CALIFORNIA
Written by Jesse Skelley on March 18, 2026
A routine live report in Southern California quickly turned into a wild moment when a bear casually wandered into the shot. KTLA reporter Erin Myers was on-air Sunday morning in a Monrovia neighborhood, previewing a story about recent bear encounters, when the unexpected guest appeared behind her.
The bear emerged near a garage and parked trailer, prompting anchor Megan Telles to quickly toss things back to Myers. Staying calm and keeping a safe distance, Myers continued reporting as the bear moved near a trap set by wildlife officials. At one point, it looked like the animal might enter the trap before turning away.
Myers later shared this wasn’t her first on-air bear interruption—making it a memorable, if slightly nerve-wracking, repeat experience.
The trap had been placed for a bear suspected of living under a nearby home. Officials later confirmed the animal, linked to a recent attack on a woman walking her dog, was captured and euthanized.
