NBA TEAM PRANKS FAN INTO THINKING THEY’D WON $10K

The Washington Wizards’ disastrous season somehow found a new low—and this time, it wasn’t just on the court. Already under fire for blatant tanking tactics and poor performance, the team added controversy with a poorly received April Fools’ Day stunt during a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
A fan was brought onto the court for a blindfolded halfcourt shot with a promised $10,000 prize. After missing badly, the arena erupted in fake celebration, leading the fan to believe he had won. Moments later, the joke was revealed on the jumbotron: it was all a prank.
While the Wizards attempted to smooth things over with an autographed jersey and future courtside tickets, the damage was done. In a season filled with losses and questionable decisions, this moment felt especially tone-deaf. For a franchise struggling to rebuild trust and credibility, turning a loyal fan into a punchline only deepens the disappointment.
