DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE INVESTIGATES NFL

The NFL is facing growing scrutiny as the Department of Justice launches an antitrust investigation into how games are distributed to fans. At the center of the issue is a major shift toward streaming platforms, with matchups increasingly appearing on services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, YouTube, and Peacock. For fans, that means juggling multiple subscriptions just to keep up with their favorite teams.
The cost is a major concern. Some estimates suggest fans could spend up to $1,500 a year—on top of cable—just to access key games. Federal officials say this raises serious questions about affordability and fairness.
Lawmakers are also reexamining the NFL’s long-standing antitrust exemption, granted in 1961, which has helped the league maintain control over broadcasting rights. While the NFL argues it’s evolving with modern viewing habits, many fans feel the sport is becoming harder—and more expensive—to watch.
