Microsoft’s stance on its AI assistant Copilot seems a bit contradictory—and it’s raising eyebrows. On one hand, the company’s CEO has encouraged people to integrate Copilot into their daily lives, even suggesting it can help predict outcomes. On the other hand, a quiet update to Copilot’s terms last year paints a more cautious picture.

The disclaimer states that Copilot is “for entertainment purposes only,” warning users that it can make mistakes and shouldn’t be relied on for important advice. That’s a striking contrast to the more ambitious vision Microsoft has publicly shared.

Microsoft now says this language is outdated, calling it “legacy” from when Copilot functioned more like a search tool. An update is reportedly on the way.

Still, for now, the mixed messaging sends a clear signal: while AI tools like Copilot are powerful, they’re not infallible. It’s wise to treat their outputs as helpful suggestions—not definitive answers—and double-check anything important.
