BINGING ON BOREDOM BECOMES POPULAR WAY TO UNPLUG

Written by on October 9, 2025

Gen Z has found a new way to “unplug” — by literally doing nothing. The latest TikTok trend, dubbed rawdogging, involves sitting still without phones, music, sleep, or any form of distraction. What started as a sky-high challenge on airplane flights has now spread to everyday life, with creators documenting their “mental detox” marathons.

Productivity influencer Rowan tried rawdogging for an hour each day to help his short attention span, claiming constant stimulation from phones, caffeine, and games had hurt his focus. By the end of a week, he said he felt calmer, more productive, and less dependent on his phone — even during meals or showers.

Experts agree that boredom can be beneficial, encouraging creativity and presence. While some critics say Gen Z is just rediscovering meditation, others see rawdogging as a refreshing reminder: doing nothing might actually do your brain some good.
