AFTER 5 YEARS, FAMILY DOG FOUND 500 MILES AWAY
Written by Jesse Skelley on November 3, 2025
After five long years, a missing dog named Penny is finally heading home. The 6-year-old Chihuahua mix disappeared from her family’s yard in Mississippi and seemed gone for good—until now.
Last week, Penny was found wandering the streets of DeLand, Florida. Local resident Briana Rideout tried to find her owner, posting flyers and knocking on doors, but no one recognized the dog. When Penny was taken to Volusia County Animal Services, a quick microchip scan revealed the truth—she belonged to the Taylor family in Mississippi.
Kristy Taylor said she and her family had long given up hope after searching social media with no luck. “We thought Penny was a goner for sure,” she said. But against all odds, Penny was healthy, happy, and a little plumper.
Now, after years of mystery and care from unknown good Samaritans, Penny’s incredible journey has a joyful ending—she’s finally going home.
