ROBOCOP STATUE FINALLY UNVEILED IN DETROIT

Written by on December 8, 2025

After nearly 15 years of planning, Detroit finally has its very own RoboCop statue — and fans couldn’t be happier. The towering 11-foot bronze tribute to the iconic 1987 movie character was officially installed outside the Free Age Production Studio in Eastern Market, drawing crowds almost immediately. Owner Jim Toscano says the sculpture has already created excitement and community buzz, calling it “super impressive” and a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

The road to get RoboCop standing was long and fan-driven. It all began with a tweet back in 2011, when former Mayor Dave Bing stated there were “no plans” for a RoboCop statue. That sparked a Kickstarter campaign led by Brandon Walley and Jerry Paffendorf, which raised over $67,000 to make the dream real. Sculptor Giorgio Gikas completed the statue in 2017, but legal hurdles delayed installation.

Now that RoboCop is finally home, organizers hope to host an official celebration — ideally with actor Peter Weller himself. Detroit’s favorite cybernetic hero has arrived.
