DANCING ROBOTS SERVE FAST FOOD CUSTOMERS IN CHINA

Written by on March 25, 2026

A McDonald’s location in Shanghai is turning heads online thanks to a futuristic twist: humanoid robots serving customers—and even dancing on the job. Developed by Keenon Robotics, the robots wear classic red-and-yellow uniforms, deliver food to tables, and interact with guests using human-like movements. The company calls the rollout a glimpse into how automation could seamlessly blend into everyday dining.

The experiment comes as restaurants in China struggle to fill service positions, with many younger workers opting out of low-paying hospitality roles. Robots, Keenon suggests, could help bridge that gap.

Still, the technology isn’t flawless. Recent mishaps, including a malfunctioning robot knocking over tables in California, highlight its limitations. For now, the Shanghai location appears more showcase than full transformation.

Reactions are mixed—some customers love the novelty, while others worry about lost jobs and human connection. Experts believe robots will likely assist, not replace, human workers in restaurants.
