A routine flight from Nantucket to Boston took an unexpected turn Monday when a Cape Air plane was forced to return shortly after takeoff due to a mid-air door issue. According to the airline, the upper portion of the main cabin door opened during the flight, though the aircraft continued operating normally.
Despite the alarming situation, the plane landed safely back on Nantucket without further incident. Cape Air has since taken the aircraft out of service for inspection, emphasizing that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority.
Passenger Lizbet Fuller captured the moment on video, later joking on Instagram about the unusual in-flight view. Still, she admitted the experience was nerve-wracking, crediting the pilot for keeping everyone calm.
Passengers were able to continue their journey to Boston on another aircraft. The plane involved, a Cessna 402C, is a staple of Cape Air’s fleet, known for short regional routes.
