Rocky Bleier !

Today’s 7AM pledge of allegiance shout-out goes to Rocky Bleier, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh Steelers, US Army, Pittsburgh Steelers. Robert Patrick Bleier went to Notre Dame after high school and helped the Irish win a national championship in 1966. He was drafted in 1968 by the Steelers. In 1969 He was drafted by the US Army. He was assigned to the 196th light infantry brigade, seeing combat in Vietnam. He was shot in the leg while crossing a rice paddy, and while laying in the mud was also struck by an enemy grenade. While recovering from his wounds in Japan, He received an inspirational note from Steelers owner Art Rooney, even though doctors said he might never walk again, let alone play football. After his time in the Army, Rooney and the Steelers welcomed Bleier back to training camp. He fought through the pain of rehab and recovery and eventually won a spot as the lead blocker for Franco Harris. He won four Super Bowl Rings with the Steelers. He won a Purple heart and a Bronze Star from The Army. Rocky played High School football at Xavier High in Appleton, Wisconsin. His parents owned and Operated Bleier’s Bar. He has a Street named after him, ” Rocky Bleier’s Run”, and what a run it was.
