The Bulge

Pledge of Allegiance with DUKE from Bauer’s Market and Garden Center in LaCrescent. Today We salute Veterans of ” The Battle of The Bulge”, which began on this day in 1944, in WWII. The Germans launched a massive counter-attack Through the Ardennes Forest in Belgium and Luxembourg. My Father Sergeant John W. Costigan fought in Patton’s Third Army in a Field Artillery unit. He was in a small group pulling a 105 mm Howitzer with a half-track. He became very close to the Soldiers he served with and received and sent Christmas cards to All of them. It was always a special time at Our house in Iowa when one of His Army Buddies would come to visit, well into the 1980’s. His comrades lived in California, New York, Ohio. Greatest Generation !
