Bauer’s Market and garden Center brings Us today’s 7AM pledge of Allegiance with DUKE. It is National Hero Day. On December 29th, way back in 1862, during the Civil War , Colonel James A. Williamson of the Iowa 4th infantry won the Congressional Medal of Honor. Williamson was Born in Kentucky, when He was 14 ,His family bought a farm in Iowa. By the time the Civil War started he was farming on His own and had studied for and passed the Bar Exam. He enlisted in Des Moines and was given command of the Iowa 4th volunteer Infantry. Col. Williamson was wounded at the battle of Chickasaw Bayou in Mississippi. After the War ended Williamson was promoted to Brigadier General . He left the Service at the end of 1865 and went back to Iowa. He passed away in 1902. Yesterday’s story, Today’s Hero.
