SCOTTISH WORLD CUP FANS ARE DRINKING BOSTON DRY
Written by Jesse Skelley on June 17, 2026
Boston has been buzzing with Scottish pride this past week as thousands of soccer fans, known as the “Tartan Army,” descended on the city for Scotland’s international matches. After celebrating a 1-0 victory over Haiti, fans packed restaurants, pubs, and even marched to Fenway Park for a Red Sox game.
Their enthusiasm came with an impressive thirst. Samuel Adams reported that its Boston Taproom completely ran out of its signature Boston Lager after Scottish supporters consumed four times the amount typically sold during a busy holiday weekend like the Fourth of July. The brewery even arranged an emergency beer delivery to keep up with demand.
Other businesses felt the impact, too. Hennessy’s Bar said sales tripled compared to St. Patrick’s Day and it sold out of beer entirely. A local liquor store also ran out of Budweiser and Corona.
With Scotland set to play Morocco in Foxborough on Friday, Boston bars may want to stock up now.
