ONLY TEN COUNTRY ALBUMS MADE ROLLING STONE’S “GREATEST ALBUMS” LIST

Written by on April 27, 2026

When Rolling Stone dropped its list of the 250 Greatest Albums of All Time, country music fans had a right to raise an eyebrow. Out of 250 albums, only ten came from the country genre—just 4% of the list. That’s a surprisingly small slice for a style of music that has shaped American culture for decades.

Still, the albums that did make the cut are undeniably strong. Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour leads the pack at #40, followed closely by Sturgill Simpson and Miranda Lambert. Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, and Eric Church also earned solid placements, representing a mix of mainstream and Americana influence. Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter appearing at #126 adds an interesting crossover moment, while Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, and Tyler Childers round things out.
