TIME CAPSULE FOR AMERICA 250 SET TO BE BURIED

As America celebrates its 250th birthday, a remarkable gift is being prepared for future generations. A specially designed, 900-pound stainless steel time capsule has been sealed and will be buried in Philadelphia on July 4, 2026, remaining unopened until 2276.

Created by the nonpartisan America250 commission, the capsule is engineered to withstand centuries underground. Built to be airtight and watertight, it contains items from all 50 states, U.S. territories, and all three branches of government.

The contents are as diverse as America itself. California included an AI-generated prediction of the future, Arizona etched the Declaration of Independence and Constitution onto a coin, Arkansas contributed a diamond, and Maine sent a whale bone. Hundreds of letters, poems, and documents were also included.

Project leaders hope the capsule will tell future Americans that today’s citizens were resilient, creative, and hopeful.
