There’s still plenty of magic in the toy box. Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” scored a franchise-record $160 million domestic opening weekend, surpassing the previous record set by “Toy Story 4,” which debuted with $120.9 million in 2019.
International audiences also turned out in force, adding $152 million to bring the film’s global opening total to an impressive $312 million. The latest installment now boasts the second-biggest opening ever for an animated movie, trailing only “Incredibles 2.”
According to EntTelligence, about 11.5 million moviegoers saw the film during Father’s Day weekend, with more than a quarter choosing premium large-format screenings like IMAX. Family audiences made up nearly 70% of ticket buyers, highlighting the enduring appeal of Pixar’s beloved characters.
Since debuting in 1995, the “Toy Story” franchise has earned more than $3 billion worldwide, including two films that topped $1 billion. Industry experts believe “Toy Story 5” is poised for a lengthy theatrical run and could ultimately join the billion-dollar club itself.
