Saxon Hall: Brownsville, MN
Saxon Hall is a pizza pub located in the small town of Brownsville, Minnesota. Located at 702 Main Street, Saxon Hall is a can’t miss when driving through Brownsville and is a short 15-20 minute drive from La Crosse. It’s in a historic stone building over 100 years old, but well kept over the years. They have happy hour every weekday from 3pm-5pm and on weekends from 11am-1pm.
When I first walked in, I noticed right away their friendly service and atmosphere. The staff was accommodating. Tera behind the bar, and Sy (the owner) were a joy to talk too, and were very engaging. They were courteous and professional and made me feel very welcome.
Saxon Hall is known for their pizza and they have a variety of different kinds. Their pizza dough is made from scratch, and they’ve have teamed up with New Albin Meat Market to provide the Canadian Bacon used on their pizza’s. I love Taco Pizza, and Saxon Hall’s was a sure hit. Some places can overdo the toppings, but Saxon Hall a good mix of taco chips, lettuce, tomato, onions, black olives and seasoned ground beef. Taco sauce and sour cream were served on the side.
The menu is simple and not overly big. You’ll certainly find something to your liking. If pizza isn’t your thing, they have also have calzones and ask about their homemade Crab Rangoon’s.
They’re not just a pizza pub. They do feature live music periodically through the year no matter the season. They have an outdoor beer garden which is perfect to enjoy live music, eat pizza and have a few cold one’s with friends during the summer. There is an upstairs which will provide the live music during the winter months, but can also serve as a great area to house private parties. There is certainly a lot to love about this special gem in Brownsville and worth a visit. I definitely will be going back!
