COUNTRY STAR OF THE MONTH: MEGAN MORONEY

Written by on February 28, 2023

Sometimes you just have to keep in contact with the right person to find your opportunities. Megan Moroney has hit the scene recently and is making the rounds in Country Music airwaves. From Georgia and a graduate of the the University of Georgia, she has earned her degree and is now trying to earn more time on the radio. She was raised in a house full of music and got the chance to show off her talents in her freshman year of college opening up for Chase Rice. Add to that she got to also open for Sugarland’s Kristian Bush who helped her later on. Megan kept in contact with Bush who helped her make more songwriting contacts in Nashville. She cut her first song “Wonder” in 2021.

Megan has really taken off with her latest song “Tennessee Orange”. The song tells the tale of a girl falling love with a Tennessee Volunteers fan and seeing past that because he’s the love she’s looked for. Those that know will tell you that Georgia Bulldogs fans do not mix well with Vol fans. It’s kind of like a Bears and Packers fan falling in love. So, her wearing his alma mater’s colors is a sin in Bulldog’s country. However, she seems to think they can survive the rivalry and that she’ll still root for the dogs even if her family disagrees. Her singing style has warmth to it and gets a little gravel when she pushes the envelope to reach the soul of the song. Her song “I’m Not Pretty” is a fun song that touches on her ex-boyfriend’s new girl checking out her social media pages so she can can trash her, but in the end it doesn’t matter. You’ll have a couple chances to catch Megan live as she is performing with Brook n Dunn in St. Paul in June and will be in West Salem at Country Boom this summer.
