Country Star Of The Month: Parker McCollum

Written by on January 1, 2021

At 28 years old Parker McCollum is just starting to get known around the country music world. His song “Pretty Heart” just went to number one a few weeks ago which we’re sure made for a very Merry Christmas. The young man is talented to say the least. He started learning music in elementary school where he played violin in the orchestra. When he was thirteen he learned to play the guitar and eventually the harmonica as well. At this time he also started writing his own music. By the age of 16 he was performing at open mic nights in the Houston, Texas area. All this before he even graduated before going to college in Austin, Texas.

Parker has released a few albums regionally in Texas, but hadn’t really shown up on the charts until his single “Pretty Heart” was released in 2019. It has slowly, but steadily risen up the charts the last few months. Had there been concerts for him to showcase the song and his many musical talents at it may gotten attention even faster. Parker has gained his musical influences from several sources. He grew up listening to classic country such as Willie Nelson, Bock Owens, and Porter Wagoner. Working for his uncle on a cattle ranch he also learned the stylings of Bob Dylan, Towns Van Zandt, and Steve Earle. He has mixed these genres along with his enjoyment of indie rock into his first albums. Not many know much about Parker McCollum yet, but with his first number 1 hit they are learning.
