OLDEST PUB IN ENGLAND CLOSING

Written by on February 10, 2022

We all know that one neighborhood bar that has been there “since forever”. The regulars have changed over the years, but most of the decor has never changed or only been slightly modified. At some point you see pictures of it when it had a major renovation except for the bathrooms for some reason. Mom and dad went there because grandma and and grandpa went there as well. You have known stories from a myriad of people that went there from famous fights to moments of extreme laughter. The neighborhood bar for small towns means even more as that’s really the only choice to go to unless you’re lucky to have two in town. Imagine a bar that popped up in the last 50 years or even the last 100 years and thinking how old that it. Now take that 100 years and multiply it by 13 and you get the oldest pub in England. The Fighting Cocks has been around since the Mayan Empire still existed and over 1000 years before America existed. Unfortunately, they were having some struggles a few years ago keeping the door open and then Covid came along. The financial strain has become too much so they are closing down. Here’s hoping someone swoops in that wants to to remain a bar and can get it back up and running. Even if it’s closed for a little bit there will be memories missed, but at least the old ones won’t die.
