Most guys do their best to be romantic. It’s not always easy. Sometimes no matter how hard they try they just can’t get it right. Flowers, special trips, candlelight dinners can all backfire on guys trying to show their gal how special she is. If you struggle with this then maybe you just need to pop in a good old fashioned romantic comedy and let it work its magic and set the mood for you. Especially with Valentine’s Day being on a Wednesday you may not be able to find a way to get out of the house or have someone to watch the kids. Here’s 5 movies you can pop in to make Valentine’s Day a little more romantic. Maybe it’s not so farfetched anymore since the advent of “Netflix and chill.”

Serendipity – John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale have an unexpected meeting only to be separated by fate. Over the next year we get to see if fate can bring them back together. It’s a movie that many couples – including my wife and I can relate to.

P.S. I Love You – With Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler as a married couple everything seems great. Until he gets brain cancer and dies. Fun, right? The movie is him using messages from the grave to tell her to move forward with her life and find someone new.

The Princess Bride – This may be the most comedic of the romantic movies and one most guys don’t mind watching. Cary Elwes and Robin Wright must fight off kidnappers, an evil prince, and oversized rodents in order to be together in this fairytale romance. Trust me guys, you’ll actually like this movie.

Groundhog Day – Bill Murray isn’t the first name that comes up when you think romance, but it is definitely at the top of the comedy list. It’s funny for sure and watching a him live the same day over and over again trying to find the perfect way to be perfect for Andy McDowell. Most people don’t necessarily see the movie as a rom-com, but it’s definitely making this list.

Sixteen Candles – The 80s queen of teen cinema, Molly Ringwald turns 16 in this film which should be a great day. Girls in the 80s apparently got the best gifts ever when they turned 16 according to movies and TV shows. In her case everyone forgets it’s even her birthday. Whoops. She spends the movie mad at her family and pining over the most popular guy in the high school. Full of quotes you know by heart, or will you can be assured you’ll bot see the romance in this comedy and be reliving high school all over again.
