HIGH SCHOOL HAS THEIR OWN “MINNEAPOLIS MIRACLE” IN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Written by on December 5, 2022

High School Football is one of my favorite sports to watch. Kids out there on the field just playing for pride and the love of the game. No money. No endorsements. Just sports. This weekend was the Minnesota State Championships known to most as “The Prep Bowl”. For 30 years it has been held at the Metrodome and now, US Bank Stadium with a few years at TCF Stadium (now Huntington Bank) as US Bank was being built. This weekend was full of great games with wild plays, back and forth scoring, and come from behind wins. although, there was one winning play that will go down in tournament history. Since I had to go to another engagement I missed the end of the 3A game of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton versus New London-Spicer and missed seeing the most exciting moment of the game and the entire tournament! With only 5 seconds left on the clock and D-G-F leading the New London Spicer Wildcats 26-21 it would take a miracle for the Wildcats to win the game. But in the house where one of the biggest NFL miracles happened they tried to harness that energy and have their own moment. The Wildcats’ quarterback dropped back and hit the wide receiver by threading a needle between defenders, but the defense was there to make the tackle! However, quick thinking by the receiver was in play as he pitched it to another teammate who ran it into the end zone for the winning touchdown! While some are comparing it to the “Minneapolis Miracle” I see it also mirror a play at the Metrodome in 2003 where Randy Moss flipped the ball to Moe Williams. Either way it was an exciting finish to great weekend of championship football!
