Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl Almost Sacked By Covid -19

The Kansas City Chiefs had 20 players and staff members, including star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, scheduled for a haircut Sunday with a barber who tested positive for COVID-19. League sources told ESPN, NFL Media and the Kansas City Star on Wednesday that reserve offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore was in the chair getting a haircut Sunday when the Chiefs informed the barber of his positive coronavirus test. The Chiefs removed the barber and canceled his other scheduled haircuts to prevent additional players from further exposure ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The barber tested negative five consecutive days before he was allowed to enter the Chiefs’ facility, according to NFL Media, including a PCR test Saturday that came back negative Sunday. The barber took an additional rapid test as a precaution before entering the facility Sunday, but the results were briefly delayed. Kilgore and the barber both were wearing masks, but the backup center told the barber to finish the haircut since he was already deemed a high-risk close contact, according to the outlets. The barber said he also cut Chiefs receiver Demarcus Robinson’s hair on Saturday away from the team’s facility. The Chiefs placed Kilgore and Robinson on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday after they were considered to be close contacts. Both players haven’t practiced since being placed on the list, but they can play in Super Bowl LV on Sunday against the Buccaneers if they record negative tests for five straight days. With Super Bowl LV just four days away, any Chiefs or Buccaneers players placed on the COVID-19 list moving forward will be unable to play in the championship game.
