Things Are Rocky In Green Bay And I’m Here For It

Written by on May 5, 2021

Those that know me know that I have no love for the Green Bay Packers. None. I watched Brett Favre play there and dash my dreams several times. He was an awesome quarterback and when the Vikings brought him out of retirement I hesitantly accepted him on the team. Hate in the sports world is a difficult emotion to let go of. However, I respected him as a player for how he played and how he acted and respected other players. I would not have been mad if he had helped the Vikings win a Super Bowl. Aaron Rodgers is another story. Is he good? Yes. Does he sometimes put the team on his back to win games? Yes. Is he a future Hall OF Fame quarterback with a Super Bowl ring? Yes. Would I be happy if he helped the Vikings win a Super Bowl? Um……. Here’s the conundrum, I don’t like him as a player or professional because he is a bit of a whiner. If a pass goes bad or he gets sacked he almost always looks at the refs or barks at them, or he blames a teammate. He has a “strained” relationship with his family due to his personality. If he came to the Vikings I would be even more hesitant in his arrival. I just don’t like him. Here’s the thing, you can’t deny the fact that the Packers have had two Hall Of Fame quarterbacks for 25 years and only two championships to go with them. Tom Brady has seven SB wins out of 10 and the last one was with a different team in his first year there. How many of those might be in Green Bay had they gotten their QBs the help they wanted?

It might surprise you, but I actually side with Brett and Aaron on their frustrations with the team. Brett would waffle on whether he was going to retire for a few years at the end and I would tell my green and gold friends that I would feel frustrated too. Now, we see a similar situation with “A’Aron” and I can’t help but feel that the Packers have done messed up. Several years they could have drafted better talent on both sides of the ball that would have improved their records and maybe gotten them a ring. Last year was the most glaring when it was considered by most to be the deepest wide receiver draft in history and the Packers took exactly zero wide receivers. They instead traded up with the Miami Dolphins IN THE FIRST ROUND to draft Jordan Love a quarterback out of Utah which usually signals that the guy is going to be their starter soon. So they gave Aaron – who at 37 years old is no spring chicken in the NFL no help to “win now”. They keep saying he’s “their guy”, but it looks a lot like when Brett was frustrated and they treated him the same way.

REPORTS THAT RODGERS WANT GUTEKUNST OUT

There have been trades rumored to still be in the mix, specifically with the Denver Broncos or that Rodgers might just retire. There have been stories as to what has been the last straw between him and the organization such as not drafting a first round wide receiver, releasing player that Aaron had chemistry with, and now talk that Rodgers mocked General Manager Brian Gutekunst in group chats. As a Vikings, Bears, or Lions fan you like to see the mighty fall even off the field. To quote Baron Zemo from Captain America: Civil War, “An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again, but empire that crumbles from within, that’s dead. Forever.”
