LUKE COMBS GIVES THOSE THAT DON’T DRINK ALCOHOL SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT

Written by on March 3, 2023

When you go out with your friends in high school there are the songs you sang at the top of your lungs. In the car, on the bus to a sporting event, or just cruising on a Saturday night you sang – sometimes poorly these anthems and bond over them. When you went to college some of those songs went with you, new songs get added, and old songs you had never heard become part of your repertoire of throwing your arms around someone and singing at the top of your lungs. Sometimes the singing was helped along with some “liquid courage” telling you, “You can sing that song and everyone loves to hear you sing!” There is a song for every genre of music and in the right bar you may have heard all of them possibly in one night depending on who was controlling the jukebox. Piano Man, Paradise By the Dashboard Light, Friends In Low Places, Livin’ On A Prayer, Alcohol, Red Solo Cup, Redneck Woman … the list goes on and on of songs that you raise a glass to with your friends or just whoever is in the bar or a concert and belt it out. There are those that don’t and actually can’t raise a glass of alcohol because they have a problem with it. Sometimes those folks feel a little left out because others don’t know how to react around them in those scenarios where the brews are flowing, and they aren’t sure they will be accepted the same. I’ve always been of the mind that you don’t need to drink to have fun, and sometimes being the sober one can be more enlightening and fun because you remember everything. It is not just refreshing, but very cool that Luke Combs looked around and decided there are those at his concerts that aren’t enjoying a long necked, ice cold beer as they sing along. So he wrote the song “Joe” for those that raise a glass of water or pop at his concerts because anything stronger would be more trouble than fun and live the sober life. You can read his statement on his new song and give it a listen below.
