What To Stream This Holiday Season While You’re On Vacation

Written by on December 22, 2020

Unfortunately there might not be a lot of snow to send the kids out to play on. No snowmen. No sledding. No snowball fights. That sounds terribly boring. Your whole family might be inside for a bit this holiday season with no school work to do or maybe you’re finally using that vacation time before the year ends. If you’re looking for something to watch alone or with the family here are some ideas I’ve come up with to freshen up your viewing this holiday season. These are on a few different streaming services so obviously you have to pay for them, but well worth it in this day and age.

“The Christmas Chronicles parts 1 and 2:”. Kurt Russell helped coin the phrase “hot Santa” last year as he played the jolly-not-really-fat-man in the Netflix holiday special. It was so successful they made a sequel for this year. They are both fun takes on Santa and kids that need a little help dealing with the loss of their father. These are great family films and even mom and dad will get a few laughs out of them and enjoy the action involved. If you haven’t seen the first one then you are going to be a little lost on part 2. They are sure to be “must watch” Christmas shows as time goes on.

Next is a show that’s just for mom and dad to enjoy and binge while home from work. Or, well home not doing any work this year. “The Queen’s Gambit” has gotten great reviews and viewers are loving it for the storytelling and the masterful way the game of chess is interwoven. The story of an orphan who is a chess prodigy is only 7 episodes long and has been the buzz the last month or so. Time to get caught up so you can join in those office or Zoom meeting discussions.

“This is the way…..” If you know someone that has said this phrase a lot lately whenever something is done the way it’s supposed be then they are definitely watching “The Mandalorian” on Disney+. This is something for the whole family to enjoy together and you don’t need to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy it either. The story of the lone bounty hunter and his mission plays out more like a sci-fi western than a space movie full of lasers and robots. As a Star Wars fan you will appreciate the Easter eggs, nods to and cameos from the movies. However, you can sit back and just enjoy the story and how badass “Mando” is whether you’re a fan or not.

Disney+ also has a new Pixar movie that comes out on Christmas Day. So if the family wants to sit and enjoy a new movie together or if the kids need something while the adults watch the Vikings game you can turn on “Soul”. Pixar movies are always a hit with everyone! This story sees what it’s like before you are “born” so to speak. The animation looks spectacular as always and since you can’t go to the theaters, or at least they are limited you can make a bowl of popcorn and sit and watch something that looks like it will touch your… well, soul.

If you need some action in your life and enjoy comic book movies then HBO MAX will have what your looking for! Due to the Covid-19 world we’re in “Wonder Woman: 1984” kept getting pushed back from it’s theater release. So Warner Brothers decided to release it both in theater and on HBO MAX so it could finally be viewed. If you feel safe going to a theater with your family you can certainly do that or hunker down and watch Gal Gadot as the “Amazon Princess” face off against one of her classic enemies, Cheetah played by Kristen Wiig. WW84 also won’t be available until Christmas Day and seems to be full of enough 80’s nostalgia to be totally awesome!

Happy viewing and have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
